Ak-Duck
and Something On The Road are proud to present the debut mini-album
by singer / songwriter / producer Nico-Teen / Zohar Shafir.
Shafir is an important part of Ak-Duck. Throughout the years
she's played roles in a large portion of the label's output:
she's sung on a few tracks from Spark-O's album, she's played
and sung on the tribute album to the TV series "Buffy
The Vampire Slayer", released by Rockstar-Wannabe (with
whom Shafir founded, two years ago, the live act K.G.Babes),
she's sung on Polish Butterfly's debut album, and she contributed
greatly to Ak-Duck's two latest compilations. Shafir's personal
musical story is different in it's temperment and tone from
the various productions she's participated in.
"Workshop" is a work free of convention. The album's
tracks range from noisy and evasive instrumentals to sweet
domestic/home-made pop. Shafir creates from an intimate and
intuitive place, and it seems like the music she creates has
it's own independent life. In many instances the melodies
she creates - through vocal manipulations, shabby synthesizers
and improvised instruments - turn into pure and captivating
pop songs. These characteristics, and more, bring to mind
the work of rising american artist, Ariel Pink (the first
signing on Animal Collective's label), who creats timeless
pop hits that remain secret and hold on to their original
magic thanks to an entirely original low-tech formula. Nico
Teen's album is a musical experiment that will challenge fans
of electro-acoustic acts like Laila and Colleen, and in the
same breath will invigorate Kate Bush fans as well! The disc
includes six libraries brimming with sounds and loops (in
wave format) from the Nico-Teen workshop, that serve as an
in-depth look into the creator's world and can be used by
the listener to create his own songs.
